Thursday, September 3

"Move In Day & Optional Programs"

Welcome Desk for Incoming International Students and Move-In Help
Pick up your room key, recieve Internatioanl Orientation materials, and get some help moving in from your friendly mentors!

Hospitality Lounge
Feel free to use the lounge to relax if your day becomes too taxing. International mentors will be there all day to answer your questions and provide you with any help required!

Passport Registration (mandatory either today or tomorrow)
Bring your passport, I-20 and I-94 card with you. The Office of International Student and Scholar Services (OISSS).

Trips to downtown Providence and the Providence Place Mall
Join mentors as they lead you on an exploration of downtown Providence. Tours will pass by the bus station, train station and end at the Mall for any shopping needs that you may have.

Trips leave from Faunce Arch, College Green. First trip leaves at 11:00 AM and second trip leaves at 3:00pm

Explore  Brown’s  Libraries and Rare Books Collection
Take a tour of Brown’s Rockefeller and John Hay libraries led by the library faculty.  Become acquainted with the libraries’ resources, visit their open stacks, and peruse through Brown’s rare book collection.

Meet at Hecker Center, Rockefeller Library, 10 Prospect Street

Campus Tours
Familiarize yourself with the Brown and join us for tours of the main campus area. Tours will be departing from Faunce Arch, Main Green at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00 and 5:30.

Apple Pie Social
Come join other international freshmen and IMP mentors for a casual get together with some traditional American apple pie. You can also register with us if you have not done so yet.

Find out everything you need to know about academics at Brown from current students and deans.

Staying Legal: Immigration 101 (mandatory for all F and J students)
This mandatory session, led by Elke Breker, Director and Jamie Kendrioski, Assistant Director from the Office of International Student & Scholar Services (OISSS) is designed to provide helpful information about immigration laws and regulations applicable to international students and to answer your questions about visas,  employment, driver’s licenses and social security.

American Culture
Join an informal discussion on cultural adjustment and American university culture with deans, faculty, and your mentors. Those who have limited experience with North American culture are especially encouraged to attend.

Brunch at the Ratty
Join us in Dining Rooms 8 & 9 for your first meal at the Ratty!Note: $$ for parents and family members.

Small Group Discussions with IMP mentors (mandatory for all students)
An informal discussion session with your mentor and other members of the Class of 2013 to answer any questions you may have.

Trip to Wal-Mart
Take RI Public Transportation (RIPTA) to Wal-Mart.  Free for students with Brown ID. Bus fare: $1.75. Those without Brown IDs, please bring exact change.

Unit Meetings (mandatory for all students), General Orientation event

Meet your unit-mates, REsidential Counselors, Minority Peer Counselors, Women Peer Counselors and Meiklejohns. Meeting locations are listed in your general Orientation Packet.


10:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Ice Cream Social, General Orientation event
Meet your fellow classmates of the class of 2013 as the rest of the class arrives for orientation!

 

Saturday, September 12th

Cook-out (vegetarian food included), fun, and games on grounds overlooking Mount Hope Bay, Bristol, RI
