PROJECTS
ACTIVE BIOGAS STOVES
Health, EnergyProject Assida started in 2006 with the goal of replacing firewood stoves in Africa with biogas, in order to reduce gender based violence associated with wood gathering. Working in collaboration with EWB, we built a prototype digester in Massachusetts, then five students spent January in Tanzania implementing a nine stove pilot project with a partner NGO. The project is ongoing--we are currently evaluating the results from the pilot. |
GISP LOW COST SOLAR COLLECTORS
EnergyMany Central Asian countries would benefit from solar thermal collectors for water and space heating. High quality manufactured collectors such as in the are not available there. Basic materials such as wood, horsehair, sheet metal, glass, and black paint are.
How well does a simple collector built of these perform compared to commercially manufactured collectors? The performance numbers and design parameter report would be something we could provide to local NGO's, local engineers, and teams who may eventually use them. |
GISP INTEGRATING ENERGY SCIENCE AND
Education, EnergyThis GISP was started through a collaborative effort between emPOWER and EWB. Members of both organizations were solicited for ideas about potential topics and ultimately, seven students set out to revolutionize the teaching of sustainability and renewable energy.
Since it has begun, the GISP has undergone several changes. More information about what we're doing can be found on our website, which is linked on the project detail page. |
