PERU HEALTH CLINIC
PROJECT DESCRIPTIONFor our first international project we will design and construct a 6000 square foot health clinic in Belen town in the Upper Amazon Basin, located outside of Iquitos, Peru. It will serve about 75,000 people in the area by providing basic and emergency medical services and supplies, as well as health care education and training. The clinic will be run by full-time Peruvian physicians, nurses and medical technicians, assisted by rotating medical staff from the United States and other developed countries. We are working together on this project with the EWB chapter at Binghamton University, the EWB-professional chapter in New York, and a Peru-based NGO called Amazon Promise, who has been present in Peru for 16 years. Amazon Promise has already been working in the area and is welcomed, as demonstrated by the 600 signatures collected of people in the town in support of this project. Additionally, the project has support from the Mayor of Belen and the Ministry of Health. GOALSOur goal is to design the clinic over the course of this coming school year (2007/2008), and implement the project when the funds are raised. We completed a survey trip in January, 2007, and are currently developing the structural designs.
