• 3/27/09. A Taiwanese overseas official in Canadia is removed from his post after publishing defamatory articles online (under a pseudonym), ridiculing the citizens of Taiwan as ignorant bumpkins and claiming to be a "high class foreigner." After disclaiming to be the author multiple times, the official finally caved in under pressure and mounting evidence against him, while defending himself with the right to "freedom of speech." #
• 1/24/09. Months into the trial of former President Chen Shui-Bien, accused of embezzling millions of dollars during his tenure, his son and daughter-in-law finally plead guilty in court. (more...) #
• 1/20/09. In an effort to boost the staggering state economy, the Taiwanese government has issued purchasing tickets, each worth $3,600 NTD, to families (equal to the number of members). #
• 9/16/08. Social concerns are raised over the import of a cargo of toxic milk powder into the Taiwanese market from a Chinese vendor. Government officials are trying to recall all products, but estimate that thousands of kilograms have already been consumed. #
• 8/14/08. Investigations have been launched against the family of former President Chen after a notification from the Swiss Merill Lynch Bank that large amounts of money were being transferred across his daughter-in-law's accounts. (more...) #
