The Smokin' Reed Saxtet is Brown University's premier saxophone chamber music ensemble, and the hottest thing to hit the streets since the Cat's Pajamas.
The Saxtet's final concert for the academic year took place on May 20th. This was the final performance for what came to be known as the 5pm Saxtet: Andrew, Mike, Sarah, and Brian. The 5pm group handed their name, reputation, and music library off to the 6pm Saxtet. Thank you to everyone who came!
Recordings from that concert are here.
The Saxtet welcomes its newest member, Dan Rome '13, on the baritone sax.
The Saxtet would like to thank Steve Schwartz for recording our first performance of the year at the BioMed Musicale, as well as Donna Arruda for organizing the show. Our piece, an original arrangement of Mark O'Connor's "Fisher's Hornpipe", is up on the Fall '09 recording page.
The Saxtet is back at it gigging a "take two" for the Very Special Arts of Rhode Island charity. Along with a few other groups from Brown, we're playing at The Everyman Bistro this coming Sunday afternoon. Come down, have a bite or a drink and a chill study break off College Hill!
